Foxes in fur farms are killed at the age of 6 months, these foxes in the photo are fortunately free and get to grow old in the forests making some more baby foxes of their own.

Foxes in the fur farms look quite different from the free foxes, ever wondered why?

See slogan keerles mul peas juba aasta otsa.

Eestis elab ja sureb farmides ligi 200 000 karuslooma, kellest 160 000 karvapalli asuvad Keila külje all AS Balti Karusnahk asutuses, kusjuures antud asutus kuulub Soome kapitalile.

For many years, I’ve been keeping an eye on the fight against fur farming. Can’t believe it’s been years, really. Hence, decided to now support the fight by creating a positive blog badge “FAUX not FOX”. This slogan has been floating around in my mind for about a year. Although fur farming means torture – also for chinchillas, rabbits, minks and so on – I opted to focus on fox as it’s likely to be most relatable for anyone in fashion. Besides, it rhymes best with faux, which means fake – in a good way – “fake fur”. I encourage bloggers from all around the world to share this message on behalf of animals! Choose a badge that best fits your blog; mine, for example, is this one on the left. Other social media platforms can naturally be included to spread the message. But now, moving on to a more in depth look at the topic to get the facts straight and intentions clear :)

Three fox farms, three mink farms and 26 chinchilla farms exist in Estonia at the moment. However, it is very likely that there are actually more farms since many of them aren’t officially registered.

Approximately 200,000 animals live and die on Estonian farms, out of which 160,000 furry creatures are kept at AS Balti Karusnahk farm, which is operating on Finnish capital.

Fur is dangerous, not only to the environment and nature, but also to our health. As a direct result of the fur industry, about 430 tons of nitrogen and 45 tons of phosphorus is dumped into the environment in Finland. Within the Poison Report 2011 framework, a specialised lab analysed 35 items – collars, coats, hoods and scarfs – from seven European countries, and every test came back positive for dangerous chemicals.

Killing methods and living conditions of the animals are torturous. I won’t even get into it too much because it’s a tough topic to talk about, but let’s just sum it up by this fact: foxes spend their 6-month life in a 1 sq.m. cage with their eyes and bones deformed, and they’re killed with gas or electrocution.

First question I often get asked is, “don’t you wear leather shoes?”, and I have to say that most of my footwear indeed is synthetic, but let’s not change the subject. Neither fox nor weasel are footwear animals, nor are they farm animals. They are wild animals being abused to make key rings, hats, vests and coats. Making 1 coat may mean taking a life of 40. One. Single. Coat. Thus leaving aside empty scepticism and selfish pleasure of how fur feels, it’s worthwhile to remember that the concept of an animal or environmentally friendly and humane fur farm is an impossible one. The only way to save the animals is to A) stop using fur, and B) banning fur farming.

Thank you for reading this post, and apologies for perhaps an unusual post… however, I feel using this platform for something close to my heart is well-justified.

Tulemus on nüüd siin.

If you didn’t already read without words I can explain using them. What happened is that Lilli Jahilo called me up and asked me to style her fresh capsule collection, as this awesome woman gave me free hands I took on art directing and post production as well, and that’s how these japanesque collages were born. Of course they had more moms than me, so I clap my hands to our make up, photography, model and of course designer team. I got all the details and accessories I needed from Fankadelik Vintage, socks from Happy Socks of course and most of the shoes from Tamaris spring-summer collection.

Thanks for tagging along,
now scroll on this springness and feel it inside your home so it will soon be shining outside too :)
